Welcome to Kids in the Woods Summer Camp!

Everything you need to know for OT Summer Camp 2025

We’re so excited to start this adventure with your child! Below, you’ll find all the key details to help you prepare for our week together.

Meeting Location & First Day Expectations

  • Sessions will take place at the St Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph. Note that if you have participated in past Kids in the Woods sessions, summer camp will be held on the other side of the highway and not at the Old Growth Forest site.

  • The address is 5420 Hwy 6 Guelph. We will meet at the Labyrinth. Follow signs for the West Entrance/Loyola house (pictured below). The labyrinth will be on your left hand side (see the star on the third picture below) with parking in front of it, and a large garden in the field on your right.

  • On the first day, our team will plan to be there a few minutes early. If your child is feeling nervous, giving them a couple extra minutes to meet the facilitators and get settled might be helpful.

When?

  • Camp runs from 9am - 12pm each day

  • Please be sure to arrive at or slightly before your session start time

  • If you are running late or will be missing a day please contact your OT as soon as possible.

    What to wear and bring?

  • A water bottle, hat, and weather-appropriate clothing. If in doubt, providing layers is super helpful so kids can adjust as needed.

  • Please have your child arrive at camp with sunscreen and bugspray already applied.

  • Please provide a (substantial!) snack. Being outside all morning means that kids are often hungrier than usual! Please pack foods that are nut-free.

  • We will always share a drink together during the group. Please send your child with a cup or mug (we will have extras in case anyone forgets!)

  • Because of the risk of poison ivy and ticks, we strongly recommend wearing socks (high socks, if tolerated) and closed-toe shoes.

  • Consider packing a change of clothes if accidents are a possibility for your child. Note that our staff can coach in changing after an accident but cannot be responsible for providing hands-on toileting support.

    Communication

  • Our team will check in if anything notable arises during the session, and we welcome questions or updates that help us support your child best.

  • We will send an email after each session to share photo highlights - these are often great conversation starters with your child and many children really enjoy seeing these pictures of their day!

  • You’ll receive a written progress note after the week wraps up highlighting your child’s strengths and areas of growth - you can expect to see this within 2 weeks of the group’s completion.

    Inclement Weather

  • Camp runs rain or shine! We believe in embracing the outdoors in all kinds of weather, and a bit of rain or mud often adds to the fun. That said, your child’s safety is always our top priority.

In the event of severe weather (such as lightning, high winds, or extreme heat), we may adjust the day’s schedule — for example, by delaying the start or arranging an earlier pick-up time. These decisions will always be made with safety, comfort, and the overall group experience in mind.

Cancelling a session is truly a last resort. If a full day must be cancelled due to unsafe conditions, families will be notified by email as early as possible that morning.

    Please note:

    • For summer camps, we are not able to offer make-up days for cancelled sessions

    • Refunds will be issued for any day the program is cancelled due to weather

You can review our full weather policy here. If you're ever unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’ll always do our best to keep you informed with as much notice and clarity as possible.

    Bathrooms

  • We will have access to port-a-potties, but given that these aren’t always a preferred bathroom option, encouraging a bathroom break before sessions is a good idea!
